Happy Hump Day

The month of January is already passing us by.  Yeah, the older we get, the faster time goes.  Speaking of getting older, how are those aches and pains?!  I’ve been dealing with chronic low back pain for 3.5 years and it’s been frustrating to say the least.  I got an MRI recently and not surprising, I have a bad disc on the L3/L4 level.  I’ll post a pic of the MRI at a later date.  I have what’s called a desiccated disc, or a dried up disc with no fluid.  The disc isn’t hitting any major nerve root per the MRI which explains why I don’t have leg pain.  My pain is always concentrated on the lower back, right in the middle.  It hurts after 20 minutes of standing and I last longer sitting down.  I’ve gone to numerous specialists, all that say to lose weight, no surgery.  Well, at this point in my life, I am 77lbs down (260lbs —> 183lbs) and it has helped some but the issue is still there.  My plan is to tough it out and reach my goal weight of 160lbs and see how I do 6-months post weight goal.  I am debating about steroid shot in the spine as it’s only a temporary thing and the possible adverse effects that occur from placing a needle in the spine.

Today is one of those pain days where I just chug through and wait until I get home to ice/rest it.  Vicodin barely helps and it gives me bad nausea.  This has simply hindered my ability to finish my ’47 Chevy Fleetline.  However, with the good days I have, I manage to get a little done here or there.

I guess this is where this blog will chronicle – my build of the Fleetline, frame up. On the next “episode”, I’ll describe when I got it, what the condition it was in, plans with it, and where I am at right now.  I’m currently cleaning out my garage with unwanted car parts and reorganizing my work space to  make sure I do a thorough job on the build.  Until next time…
